We Bare Bears Wiki

I have an idea for an arcade game based on the show down here,

We Bare Bears is an arcade side-scrolling, beat 'em up by Sega using the System 16-B arcade hardware that Sega's Golden Axe had, as well as the first non-mobile video game based the We Bare Bears TV Series. The game allows up to two players to control only two of the three bears: Grizz, Panda, and Ice Bear, as they fight various enemies in order to find the way out of the game Panda has made with his newly developed coding skills.

Plot

As the bears; Grizz, Panda and Ice Bear, take a stroll through town, they find people playing a new game that Panda made himself after learning to code games on phones. When the bears start the game on Panda's phone, they are immediately sucked into the new game. Fighting their way through eight areas in Panda's game, such as Bay City, Electro Land and even Dream Space, the bears eventually arrive at the Castle of the Final Showdown, where they face against not only Nom Nom's bodyguard, but the game's final boss Nom Nom, who attacks them in a solar-powered mech suit. After managing to defeat Nom Nom, the bears get zapped back into the real world. In the Genesis version (if possible, maybe), the characters discover that the original final boss is also a robot, so they also battle the real Nom Nom and his second and stronger mecha suit, as the true final boss.

Gameplay

We Bare Bears is a side-scrolling beat 'em up for up to two players, selecting two of the three bears: Grizz, who uses action skills; Panda, who uses boxing skills; and Ice Bear, who uses martial arts skills. Along with the standard array of jumping and attacking, various steeds (much like in Golden Axe) are found in the game. These can be ridden when the enemy rider is knocked off, or if one is found dormant. The least powerful steed is known as the Albino Alligator (appeared in the episode Chloe and Ice Bear) which can be used to knock down enemies with a swipe of its tail. The more powerful ones are Dargoons, which can either shoot lasers or breathe fire depending on its color scheme, is found later in the game. Players can also pick up food items to restore health, as well as objects they can throw at enemies and items that temporarily power up their attacks. Players are given a small number of lives, which are lost if the player's life bar runs out. If the player runs out of life with no lives remaining (represented by a Grizz-like angel appearing before them), the player has 20 seconds to add credits or the game ends. At certain points in the game, players compete against each other in minigames to earn additional points.

The Japanese version of the game includes small scale coded in game bombs that, when thrown, clear all on-screen enemies, as well as a life bar that, unlike in the U.S. version, but optional in the Genesis version, are two more sizes bigger, and in addition, only in the Japanese arcade and Genesis worldwide the player's life is turned in bonus points after he completes a level and it's totally restored as the next level begins. In this version there are hidden items (food and weapons) which appear when the player hits specific points of the screen.

In addition to the arcade mode, Genesis version of the game included "Battle", a survival mode type game that pitted players against increasingly powerful foes in consecutive rounds of play, and "Time Attack", where you have to complete a level as fast as you can. These modes also featured a two-player option.
